Re-gravelling of some feeder and major roads ( Moyamba- Shenge Road, Moyamba- Rotifunk road, and the Makolo-Mabang-Rotifunk road) in Moyamba District was a welcoming gesture to the people of the District especially those from Kargboro, Kongbora, Bumpeh, Ribbi and other chiefdoms because it signaled the end of misery on travelling to these chiefdoms especially during the raining season.
The arrival of the rainy season has in recent years had been a source discomfort for some chiefdoms in Moyamba District because of regular cutoff from the rest of the country due to very bad roads.
This has often resulted to high cost of living in these communities because the prices of commodities sky rocketed during periods of cutoff.
It was therefore a welcoming gesture for these communities when some of these roads were awarded to contractors for gravelling.
The people were very pleased with the move by government as it was seen as a move to lessen constrains.
However, with the raining season heading for its peak, the road situation in these communities especially Bumpeh and Ribbi Chiefdoms remain disgusting.
Following the awarding of an over Le 8 billion contract to gravel the Makolo-Mabang-Rotifunk highway to MEDZICK INTERNATIONAL, in November 2020, very little has been done on the road.
Apart from bush-clearing which was completed months ago, the road condition is still very deplorable. With the rains pouring, another cutoff is almost certain.
The same can be said of the Rotifunk-Moyamba highway and the Moyamba-Shenge road.
The attention of both the district council and the Sierra Leone Roads Authority has on several occasions been drawn to the stand still state of these road projects.
Not too long ago these communities were celebrating these road construction projects; many are now baffled by the current state of these roads.
The situation is pretty much the same and the prices of basic stuff are already beginning to rise rapidly.
