The newly transferred Acting Manager Environment Protection Agency (EPA_ in Kono District Ishmael Jalloh has stressed that development and environment are two sides of the same coin in any context of sustainable development.
He stressed the point about being conscious of environment friendly development.
Ismael Jalloh made the pronouncement owing to the spate of environmental problems affecting the municipality of Koidu and Kono District as a whole with special reference to the way and manner in which people especially children drown in dug out mining pit that are not reclaimed.
He pointed out that the indiscriminate burning of tires and other waste household materials by some people thereby causing health implications have contributed immensely to the present environmental problems in the city of Koidu and Kono District as a whole.
Mr. Jalloh has therefore called on all and sundry in the district to be friendly with the environment.
The caution was made regarding developmental programs and those to be effected.
He intimated this medium that as the reclamation of dug out mining pits is ongoing in the city of Koidu, his office has plans of sensitizing people on the radio and even one on one engagement with regards how people should be friendly with the environment.
He pointed out that sustainable development is farfetched in an unfriendly environment.
“After the proposed sensitization on how to be friendly with the environment, my office will leave no stone unturned in dealing with defaulters,” the newly transferred Acting Manager – Environment Protection Agency (EPA) Kono District concluded”.
