The Deputy Speaker of the Parliament of Sierra Leone, Hon. Segepoh Solomon Thomas has been elected, Deputy Chairperson of the West Africa Association of Public Accounts Committees (WAAPAC).
The election of the Deputy Speaker came in the wake of the 8th WAAPAC Annual Conference and General Assembly slated between 23rd and 27th May 2022 in Lome, Togo, on the theme: “The Role of Parliament in Post COVID-19 Economic Recovery”.
The conference and general assembly predicated on effects, challenges and opportunities of COVID-19 crisis and related issues including evaluation of recovery plans, pre-budget debates and parliamentary vote in times of crisis were part of the presentations and discussions.
The Deputy Speaker is well known for flying the Sierra Leone flag high at the international level and has always brought Laurent home.
In 2009, WAAPAC came into being and comprises various countries including Benin, Burkina Faso, Cote D’Ivoire, Ghana Liberia, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, the Gambia, Togo and Sierra Leone. The association aim is to create a platform for networking with the view of sharing and achieving best practices and where appropriate, harmonizing and standardizing the work of Parliamentary Public Accounts Committees in West Africa sub region. WAAPAC strives to stand out as an organization that empowers its members to effectively carry out their functions as key oversight committee of Parliament over public sector finances, as well as promoting good governance.
