Members of the Wilberforce Street Disable Organization in Freetown have denounced the action of people staying at home during the past three days calling for normalcy to take effect instead of a riot.
The Chairman of the organization, Ibrahim Mammie told A-Z newspaper in an exclusive interview that he had sensitized his colleagues against being part of the rumoured strike action because they don’t believe in violence as a solution to solve the hardship the country is going through at the moment.
He said the global hardship is not hitting Sierra Leone alone citing that countries with bigger economies are as well going through hardship currently. He said he believes that the government of President Maada Bio is on top of the situation having tried a great deal to address the economic situation people are going through. He referred to President Bio as the best leader with a greater sense of passion for people living with disabilities in Sierra Leone.
“Dis na kombra government en kombra President”, he shouted in our local parlance, meaning the President has an open door policy, especially for the disabled community. He called on his colleagues to use their God-given talents to make ends meet rather than engaging in demonstrations suggested by faceless people.
He said he wished President Bio could have been in the country to see what they went through during the past three days as some of them sat down peacefully at their business places wondering why people should listen to the infamous Adebayoh on social media.
As for his wife, Mrs Hawanatu Mammie, she called on the women to support the seating President and not listen to social media lies. She said the ruling Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP) is not responsible for the hardship adding that the previous government should be blamed for what the country is going through.
According to the Chairman of the SLPP Disable Wing, David Swarray, said they are watchful and have taken concrete moves to prevent violence in the city.
