Criminal Investigations Department Arrests Suspect in Connection with Stolen Car Tape and Malicious Damage

A detective inspector from the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), Mohamed Kargbo of 143 Bai Bureh Road, testified before Magistrate Soa Mamakoh Kallon in an ongoing case involving theft and malicious damage.

The accused is facing two charges of Larceny; for allegedly stealing a car tape. Malicious Damage; for intentionally damaging property.

Inspector Kargbo testified that on Saturday, May 10, 2025, he was on duty when the complainant brought in the accused, along with a damaged car tape and an old pair of scissors. These items were reported as part of the larceny and malicious damage case.

The detective further stated that on the same day, he and Detective Custody Officer Garry S. (Badge No. 17824) obtained a caution statement from the accused in Krio, which was then translated and recorded in English. The statement was read back to the accused, who confirmed its accuracy by affixing his right thumbprint. Garry S. signed as the recorder, and the caution statement was tendered in court as Exhibit B1–8.

Inspector Kargbo also noted that the damaged car tape and scissors were submitted as part of the evidence.

The following day, both detectives obtained a charge statement from the accused in Krio, which was translated into English. After the statement was read back to him, the accused confirmed its accuracy and again signed with his right thumbprint. Inspector Kargbo signed as the witness, and Garry S. signed as the recorder.

The case has been adjourned to August 8, 2025, for further hearing.
