Cricket Sierra Leone on 26th September 2023 ended the first phase of the Crip projects across Communities in the Western Area Urban.
The Projects was aimed at tapping into new talents within the local communities and to also create a platform to get new athletes in joining the Sport.
Project coordinator Edward Marrah said it was not an easy exercise going through the Communities during the rainy season, noting that they decided to embark on it during the holiday’s period at that time most of the pupils are at home doing nothing beneficial.
He affirmed that they visited 11 communities within the Western Area Urban as they were able to tap into many talents from those communities and they were trained at the beginner’s aspects of the sport, noting they intend to be visiting those communities on weekend’s basis to continue passing on the skills involved in Cricket.
He furthered that the reason why there is break on the first phase is because schools has reopened and most the Children are school going pupils, they can only be tracked down on weekends which they put in place to kick-Off from that trajectory in transforming the sport across the Country. He noted that during the week days they will be touring the Schools to tap in new talents during their break periods.
He confirmed that on the area of acceptability the communities will accept the Sport and their Parents decided to be urging them to turn up for training the Sport, noting that during their tour they were able to reach the following communities, Crab Town Community, Kroo bay Community, Tengbeh Town Community, Brookfields Community, Grafton, Jui and Hasting Community and all these communities witness massive turn out from Residents.
He added that the Federation left some training equipment to the Communities to help them master some of the skills in cricket Law.
