Hon. Kadiru Kai Kai failed to appear before Magistrate Joseph Kobba at Pademba Road Court No. 2 in Freetown, where he is facing a charge of obtaining goods by false pretences, contrary to Section 32(1) of the Larceny Act of 1916.
According to the particulars of the offence, on 2nd March 2019 in Freetown, Hon. Kai Kai allegedly received several items including men’s kaftans, shoes, a watch, men’s slippers, a cap, dresses, and a bag valued at a total of three thousand United States dollars ($3,000). These items were the property of the complainant, Rebecca Anyana Beckey.
It is alleged that the accused obtained the goods by falsely claiming he had a cheque to cash and would pay for the items afterward, knowing that the claim was untrue.
When the matter was called in court, the accused failed to appear. As a result, Magistrate Kobba issued a bench warrant for both the accused and the absent sureties.
The matter has been adjourned to 30th May 2025 for further hearing.
