In a recent press briefing held on Monday, April 15th, 2024, the management of Sierra Leone’s premier referral institution, Connaught Teaching Hospital, showcased significant developmental achievements over the past few years.

Dr. Mark Kapuwa, the Care Manager at Connaught Hospital, hailed the institution as a leader in providing accessible healthcare services within the country. He lauded the caliber of healthcare professionals employed at the hospital, describing their professionalism as “top-notch.” Dr. Kapuwa highlighted the hospital’s commitment to continuous improvement through ongoing medical training programs endorsed by the Nurses’ Council.

During the briefing, Dr. Kapuwa outlined the stringent criteria for obtaining and renewing medical licenses, emphasizing the importance of medical personnel demonstrating their participation in accredited courses. He pledged to work alongside his team to elevate Connaught Hospital to the forefront of medical treatment facilities in Sierra Leone, citing the recent implementation of electronic medical records as a significant step forward in enhancing patient care and administrative efficiency.

However, Dr. Kapuwa also acknowledged the challenges facing the hospital, including limited resources and occasional negative attitudes among some individuals. He stressed the urgent need for additional funding to acquire essential medical equipment, essential for ensuring effective service delivery.

In response to concerns about cleanliness and hygiene, Dr. Kapuwa revealed that the hospital had installed numerous waste bins strategically throughout the premises to maintain a clean and serene environment conducive to healing.

Expressing gratitude, Dr. Kapuwa thanked the Government of Sierra Leone for procuring diagnostic machines aimed at enhancing the hospital’s capacity to identify and treat various illnesses effectively.

Despite these challenges, Connaught Teaching Hospital remains steadfast in its commitment to providing quality healthcare services to the people of Sierra Leone, striving for excellence in both medical treatment and patient care.
