The Bo District Secretary for Civil Society Forum in the Bo District, Momoh Sao Kamara who doubles as the National Coordinator of Children and Youth for Peace Agency (CYPA) Sierra Leone has disclosed that they have embarked on the registration of civil society organizations in Bo district.
Speaking to A-Z Newspaper in Bo, Mr. Kamara said that they want to update their data base of their membership, and to know the existing from the non-existing ones.
“ We have asked them to present their certificates of registration and constitution to the secretariat and those that are coming newly as CSOs need to be informed about the codes of conduct/ethics of the civil society forum”, he said.
According to Kamara, the CSO’s forum in Bo district is working as a team to serve as voice for the voiceless. He cautioned those who are coming newly on board to ensure that they strictly go by the codes of conduct and ethics of CSO Forum.
He said that they are strictly monitoring their membership to ensure that they work within the codes of conduct or ethics that bind the association.
Some residents of Bo commended the leadership of CSO headed by Mustapha Kpaka as the regional convener for instituting measures to ensure that their members are regulated, adding that most of the people claiming to be CSOs do not belong to the CSOs forum and asking them to register, is a regulatory mechanism they have put in place.
Augustine Bindi said that the civil society activists in Bo need to be united to ensuring that they put the government on its toes to fulfill all the promises made before every election.
“This does not only mean the current government but any successive governments coming into power, we should be seen advocating issues of national interest,” Bindi said.
“I want to see robust CSOs in Sierra Leone and we want to commend the few that have the country at heart to see the lives of people improved,” he concluded.
