Former Team Manager of Leone Stars, Christian Dauda, on Monday 6th March 2023 officially presented trophies and medals to Dr. David Moinina Sengeh, the Minister of Basic and Senior Secondary Education and Chief Innovation Officer for the Directorate of Science, Technology and Innovation in Sierra Leone ahead of tomorrow’s Western Urban District Inter-Secondary School Football grand finals at Police complex in Kingtom.
Dr. David Sengeh applauds Christian Dauda for his kind gesture which he considers tinely towards this year`s Inter Secondary School Football competition. Dr.Sengeh said: “The reintroduction of this year`s school tournament has been successful because I thought the event will be marred with violence but I am happy with the way the pupils comport themselves”, he said.
“The other day I was in Makeni and I was witnessing training of Wusum Stars and majority of the players are school pupils and the same for the female team, so we have to invest in school football”, he appealed.
He thanked the Director of PHE Department; Sahid Conteh for his tremendous efforts in making this year`s tournament a success.
He continued: “I want to urge all girls to take part in physical activities and sports. We should not feel that sports are only for boys,” Sengeh said in his statement”.
“We want to inculcate healthy lifestyle practices in our school pupils, “I look forward to students taking advantage of this opportunity in school every academic year. “Participation in sports also strengthens social bonding of pupils and people around them”. Sengeh added.
Christian Dauda appealed to the Ministry of Basic Secondary School Education to develop and promote grass root football in schools across the country, He said: “To develop football we have to take it to the schools, Christian said in his statement.
He added: “As you know people get scholarships to go to the university through sports and not everybody will make it academically. I have been working with national teams and I am always happy to support grass-root football. Take it back to the schools because the Mohamed Kallon other great players came through this school system”; he appealed.
He commended Mr. Sahid Conteh of always been in support to develop school sports across the country. He said: “Mr. Sahid Conteh can knock and always give me a phone call for support and am always there to support when it comes to sports and kids’ activities”. Among the items presented includes two trophies for both the winners and runners up, golden boot winner, and medals for both the champions and runners-up.
