The 31st of June every year is world No-Tobacco day and as a way of commemorating this year’s No-Tobacco day, the community health officer (CHO) attached to the Koidu Government Hospital Morlai Turay has told this medium that World No-Tobacco day is set aside by the World Health Organization to sensitize people around smoking or the intake of tobacco.
Mr. Turay maintained that the dangers of smoking or taking in tobacco cannot be over emphasize as it has so many chemicals that affect human beings that do smoke generally. According to him the following are the human systems or parts that smoking affects negatively: the lungs, heart and brain among many others.
He said smoking also causes the following sickness, Pneumonia, Cancer to name but a few.
Morlai Turay disclosed to this medium that most of the cases they get at the Koidu Government Hospital are provoked by smoking and the aforementioned sicknesses, he therefore strictly warned against smoking as it has the potential of killing.
Meanwhile, anti-tobacco groups around the world want it to be abolished in order to save the lives and future of generations yet unborn.
Since the day was set aside by the World Health Organisation (WHO) in 1987, considerable impacts have been recorded as a result in 1988; the World Health Assembly passed a resolution for the commemoration of World No-Tobacco day on May 31st of every year.
It could be recalled that the awareness on the world No-Tobacco day commemoration in 2021 was with the watch words “Commit to quit” whiles adding that since that time, millions of tobacco users have stopped smoking and therefore urged them to maintain the reported trend.
