The Embassy of China in Sierra Leone hosted a grand Spring Festival Reception in Freetown under the theme “Auspicious Horse Welcomes the Spring, Celebrating the Chinese New Year.”
The event was attended by Ambassador Zhao Yong, who delivered a keynote speech. More than 300 guests participated, including representatives of the Sierra Leone China Chamber of Commerce, the Chinese Business Association, Chinese enterprises operating in Sierra Leone, Chinese nationals and overseas Chinese, as well as friends from various sectors of Sierra Leonean society.
In his address, Ambassador Zhao extended heartfelt New Year greetings to Chinese compatriots living and working in Sierra Leone. He highlighted China’s significant development achievements in 2025 and expressed his hope that the Chinese community would continue to support one another and contribute renewed momentum to bilateral exchanges in all fields. He also emphasized the importance of building an even closer China Africa community with a shared future.
The reception featured a festive and lively atmosphere, with performances including dragon and lion dances, traditional ethnic songs and dances, martial arts demonstrations, acrobatics, and the renowned face-changing performance of Sichuan opera.
While celebrating the Chinese New Year and sharing nostalgia for their homeland, attendees exchanged views on the future of China-Sierra Leone relations and expressed confidence in jointly writing a new chapter of bilateral cooperation
