On Monday, 4th April, 2022, H.E. Hu Zhangliang, Chinese Ambassador to Sierra Leone, handed over 10 SUV vehicles and 2 minibuses donated by the government of People’s Republic of China to the government of the Republic of Sierra Leone.
This batch of donation is not only a vivid demonstration of the continuous development of China-Sierra Leone friendship and cooperation but also one of the concrete steps taken by China to support Sierra Leone’s development.
We believe that with these vehicles, the relevant ministries and agencies of the Republic of Sierra Leone will be better equipped to perform their duties.
These vehicles could best be allocated to the National Telecommunication Commission; as that agency arm of government is in dire need of vehicles to serve the nation, cut across. Vivid memories could drip in, as recent as the previous month, when parliament ratified the telecommunications act, where honorable members from both the ruling party and the main opposition party (APC), who form part of the Ministry of Information and Communications Oversight committee, echoed the lack of vehicles at the NATCOM to man their affairs effectively and efficiently.
Imagine a whole government agency controlling the communication system of the entire country, having no better vehicles to do effective or proper monitoring in all districts of Sierra Leone. Freetown should not be limited as being Sierra Leone; there are districts with NATCOM’S work stations; so therefore, these vehicles donated by the Chinese Embassy to the government of Sierra Leone could better be suited for the National Telecommunication Commission (NATCOM).
This donation is timely for such an agency. Though not even at par to the amount of vehicles really needed for effective operations of NATCOM.
