In a philanthropic effort to support President Bio free Quality Education and the empowerment of underprivileged students, the Chinese Ambassador to Sierra Leone, H.E Wang Qing, yesterday gave grants to deserving pupils in a ceremony held at the Chinese Embassy in Fretown.
The initiative aims to provide financial assistance to economically disadvantaged students pursuing their education. Ambassador Qing expressed the importance of investing in education as a means to uplift communities and strengthen the bonds between China and Sierra Leone.
During the ceremony Amb Qing highlighted the longstanding friendship between both countries and the commitment to fostering collaboration in various sectors, including education. The grants, which were awarded to a diverse group of pupils from different regions of Sierra Leone, will cover tuition fees, textbooks, and other essential educational expenses.
In his address, the Ambassador said “Education is a fundamental righjt, and by supporting these bright and deserving students/Pupils, we are contributing to the development of human capital and creating opportunities for a better future. This initiative reflects the deep-rooted friendship and cooperation between both nations.”
The recipients of the grants were selected through a meticulous process, considering academic achievements, financial need, and the potential for future contributions to society. The ceremony was attended the Minister of Basic and Senior Secondary Education, Conrad Sackey, Deputy Minister of Gender and Children’s Affairs, Hindowa Buakai Bindi, educators and the families of the beneficiaries.
However, the Chinese Embassy’s initiative aligns with the broader efforts to strengthen people-to-people ties and cultura; exchanges between China and Sierra Leone. The grants represent a tangible expression of China’s commitment to fostering educational development and empowering the youth of Sierra Leone.
Hence, the collaboration between China and Sierra Leone in this educational endeavor reinforces the belief that international cooperation can create positive change and open new doors for the youth of both nations.
The ceremony was climaxed with the issuing of certificates to all beneficiaries.
