The China Railways Seventh Group (CRSG) is hosting two major events today in Freetown, marking a significant step toward promoting education, sustainability, and community development in Sierra Leone. The events are expected to attract high-profile dignitaries, including His Excellency the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Sierra Leone, senior government officials, and traditional leaders, among others.
The first event is the launch of a Joint Education Programme initiated by CRSG in partnership with Zhengzhou Railway Technician College and Freetown Polytechnic. The programme is designed to strengthen vocational and technical skills training for young people in Sierra Leone.
As part of the initiative, CRSG has constructed a modern multimedia classroom at Freetown Polytechnic, equipped with advanced technology to support diverse learning needs and foster the development of skilled professionals. During the launch ceremony, participants will tour the facility and observe demonstrations of the equipment, alongside presentations outlining the curriculum developed by professional instructors from China. The programme will deliver practical vocational and technical courses aimed at improving students’ employability and workforce readiness.
Following the education launch, participants will proceed to CRSG’s equipment sales showroom along the Wellington–Masiaka Highway in Songo, where the company will unveil its inaugural Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Report. This publication marks a milestone, as it is the first professional ESG report released by CRSG in an African country.
The ESG report highlights CRSG’s commitment to environmental protection, social responsibility, and sound corporate governance, while documenting the company’s contributions to local communities and sustainable development. Through this initiative, CRSG aims to demonstrate accountability and encourage other enterprises operating in Sierra Leone to adopt responsible and sustainable business practices.
In recent months, CRSG has intensified its community engagement efforts through a series of social and cultural initiatives. On April 19, 2025, the company organised an Intercultural Friendship Football Match involving a mixed team of Chinese and Sierra Leonean employees and members of surrounding communities, fostering unity and cultural exchange through sport.
On June 6, 2025, CRSG invited medical professionals from the 26th Chinese (Hunan) Medical Team to conduct a health training session for staff. The training addressed key public health concerns, including Monkeypox and malaria prevention, and provided practical instruction in CPR and first aid, underscoring the company’s commitment to employee and community wellbeing.
Further engagement with young people followed on June 17, 2025, when CRSG hosted an Open Day and Youth Cultural Exchange titled “Boundless Culture, Shared Youth.” The event aimed to strengthen cooperation with local educational institutions, enhance vocational education, and promote cultural understanding among Sierra Leonean youth.
On September 13, 2025, CRSG launched the “Silk Road in Harmony: Cultural Integration” programme, designed to improve language proficiency and cultural awareness among Sierra Leonean students and CRSG management staff through Chinese language and cultural education sessions.
As CRSG stages these landmark events today, expectations among local communities remain high. The company’s sustained investments in education, health, and cultural exchange align closely with Sierra Leone’s national development priorities. Through collaboration and long-term commitment, CRSG continues to build a relationship grounded in mutual respect, shared growth, and sustainable progress for the future of Sierra Leone.
