It is official; China is ready to dispatch to Sierra Leone a consignment of its WHO certified Sinopharm COVID 19 Vaccine.
Ministry of Health sources have confirmed this development even as no specific date and quantum of the consignment has been disclosed.
The Chinese Embassy is also discrete about the development ostensibly not wanting to jump the gun consistent with diplomatic protocol.
However, in a recent press release, it was stated that China has decided to provide vaccine aid to African countries including Ethiopia, a concrete step in honoring President Xi Jinping’s pledge of making COVID-19 vaccines a global public good.
Our Ministry of Health sources hinted that this consignment will prioritize frontline COVID 19 Responders in the first instance and will be rolled out to citizens subsequently.
Other countries around world are beneficiaries of other vaccine types from China.
Indonesia, Turkey, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Uruguay, and Laos have granted emergency authorization for the CoronaVac vaccine developed by Sinovac Life Sciences, Sinovac said in a news release.
