In a pivotal town hall meeting held on Friday, 3rd May 2024, residents of the chiefdom of Kowa voiced their grievances against solar service provider Power Leone, citing poor service delivery and unexplained billing discrepancies. Paramount Chief Elect, Madam Amy Tattor Tibbie Kallon, led the charge, asserting that her constituents “have not been getting value for money” from the electricity services provided by Power Leone.
Multiple stakeholders, including the chiefdom imam, town chief, and ordinary citizens, echoed similar sentiments during the meeting. Complaints ranged from late supply of electricity to the lack of alerts upon purchasing top-ups for prepaid meters. Chair lady Margaret J. Vanday lamented receiving notices of debt accumulation despite minimal or no electricity usage.
In response, a technician from Power Leone’s headquarters acknowledged the issues raised, attributing them to technical challenges, particularly mobile network issues. The technician admitted to a communication gap and poor public relations but assured attendees that steps would be taken to address these concerns.
However, Paramount Chief Elect Amy Tattor Tibbie Kallon issued a stern ultimatum, demanding immediate action from Power Leone to eliminate unexplained debt and improve service quality. She warned that failure to do so would result in either cessation of operations or drastic changes.
The Power Leone team has returned to their headquarters in Freetown with the urgent message from the chiefdom residents, urging swift action and accountability from the company’s management. Further developments are anticipated as Power Leone responds to the ultimatum issued by the paramount chief elect.
