In continuation of his tour to different ministries, the Chief Minister has extoled the Minister of Basic and Senior secondary Education(MBSSE) for his outstanding leadership and the exceptional drive he has engineered to actualizing the New Direction’s flagship free and quality education programme.
In his address to officials of the MBSSE, the Chief Minister explained the terms of reference of his new position, whiles further noting that the whole idea of the NEW DIRECTION is to do things differently for a better result.
Hon JJ Saffa was blunt in explaining that the Bio led would not tolerate low output in the government`s flagship programme and went further to cautioning MBSSE staff to treat the free and quality education programme with the utmost seriousness it deserves.
In his response the Minister of MBSSE, Dr. David Sengeh categorized the plethora of accomplishments of his Ministry.
Dr Sengeh reveals that his undertaking at the ministry includes the up to date payment of school subsidies, 100% payment of examination fees for NPSE candidates, distribution of textbooks in core subject areas and the School feeding in 14 districts across the district which can be counted among the many success stories accomplished by his ministry.
The minister disclosed that the MBSSE have recruited 180 School Inspectors who are furnished with motor bikes to monitor the successes and challenges encountered by schools across the country.
Dr. Sengeh used the occasion to bring to the attention of the Chief Minister regarding some of the challenges they are facing as a Ministry.
Dr. Sengeh revealed that Procurement bureaucracy and the late and sometimes non- payments to service providers are some of the challenges he would like the Chief Minister to help the MBSSE surmount.
