Chief Michael Shamsu Mustapha (Dr) has been officially endorsed as the substantive Secretary General of the African Union Sports Council (AUSC) Region 2.
The endorsement was confirmed on 10th December 2025 during a meeting of Directors of Sports and technical experts held in Bujumbura, Burundi.
Chief Mustapha previously served as Interim Secretary General for six months, during which he made exceptional contributions toward strengthening and operationalizing the region’s programmes. In recognition of his leadership, dedication, and impact, he has now been granted a full five-year mandate.
In his new role, Chief Mustapha will guide AUSC Region 2 initiatives across West Africa and collaborate with ministries of sports and other key stakeholders to advance the continent’s sports development agenda.
The leadership and Secretariat of AUSC Region 2 congratulate Chief Mustapha on this significant and well-deserved appointment.
