The Chief Justice of Sierra Leone, Honourable Komba Kamanda, has affirmed that the judiciary remains committed to ensuring swift and fair justice in Sierra Leone. This statement came during a meeting with the Anti-Corruption Commission’s (ACC) Advisory Board Committee.

Justice Kamanda highlighted ongoing efforts to address the backlog of ACC cases and outlined strategies that will be implemented to enhance effective and efficient case management in the courts.

The ACC Advisory Board Committee met with the Chief Justice on April 3, 2025, to discuss concerns over the prolonged duration of corruption cases in the courts. The meeting, held at the Office of the Chief Justice in Freetown, was part of the ACC’s broader efforts to improve the efficiency of the justice system and ensure the speedy resolution of ACC cases in the High Court. The discussion underscored the importance of timely trials of ACC cases in reinforcing public confidence in the country’s anti-corruption efforts.

As Chairman of the meeting, Deputy Commissioner of the ACC, Augustine Foday Ngobie, expressed gratitude to the Chief Justice for his warm reception and willingness to address such important matters. He commended the judiciary for their support in ensuring that corrupt individuals are held accountable. “Without the Judiciary, our job will not be complete, as they are strategic partners in the fight against corruption,” Mr. Ngobie stated.

Chairman of the ACC Advisory Board, Prince Goba, emphasized that the meeting was aligned with ongoing efforts to enhance judicial efficiency and uphold the rule of law in Sierra Leone. He urged the Chief Justice to review pending ACC cases and take necessary actions to expedite their proceedings. “Prolonged legal processes can undermine public confidence, which in turn weakens the country’s anti-corruption efforts,” he said.

This engagement highlights the collaborative effort between the judiciary and the Anti-Corruption Commission in tackling corruption and ensuring timely justice.
