After exhausting three Covid-19 related thematic concepts in previous editions, we felt the innate urge to change the signature tune in this edition for our esteemed readership. We sensed that the time is ripe to change content and explore another domain. Covid-19 is gradually subsiding around the world; it has ceased to dominate the global agenda.
Countries that were badly affected by the pandemic are progressively easing restrictions, prompting us to shift subject to something more indispensable to humanity at large. This time, our journalistic radar is navigating Africa`s quest to achieve food security.
Earlier this year, the horn of Africa was plagued by what appears to be an apocalyptic famine triggered by climate change. Cattles were dropping dead and children were dying on the backs of their mothers. Amidst the grim spectacle, several African states are expending millions of dollars on the importation of rice and wheat. The irony must change. Africa is blessed with fertile and arable land, coupled with abundant rain and sunshine for agriculture to thrive. We remain steadfast in witnessing the extrication of African countries from the quagmire of food unsustainability.
By the nomenclature of the magazine (A-Z African magazine), we do our utmost exertions to present African realities to our domestic and international readers; far from meaning that we are overlooking the challenges. But in reality, our mission is centred on projecting the real and undistorted picture of the changes taking place on the continent in terms of progress and development. With a solid emphasis on developmental journalism, we remain undaunted to nourish our readers with the strides African governments are taking to achieve food security in this edition. This is what we have been doing and we intend to continue with that trend of journalistic excellence.
In our January 2022 edition, “Unmasking bright African hospitality in post Covid-19” we were unable to feature advertisements from businesses. Despite the financial challenges, our manifest resolve was not to disappoint our venerated readership. Having placed the magazine on an enviable pedestal, we were determined not to discontinue the A-Z quarterly publication irrespective of financial constrains occasioned by lack of advertisements. Our readers would have been saddened not to find our resplendent magazine cover in the news strands.
Therefore, we are humbly urging and appealing to businesses and government institutions to experiment by advertising with us and watch their businesses propel to higher heights. Media institutions can hardly survive without incoming revenue streams. By carving out business partnerships with the corporate world, the goal will ultimately be a win-win situation.
