In a concerted effort to foster peace, cooperation, and women’s empowerment across diverse communities, the Campaign for Good Governance (CGG), supported by funding from USAID through Trocaire, has orchestrated a series of multi-stakeholder meetings in Karene District, situated in the Northern Province of Sierra Leone. This initiative, titled the “People-to-People Peacebuilding Project,” unfolded over the course of the week, marking a significant stride towards sustainable development and harmony in the region.

Led by Landiya Ade-Williams, the Programme Manager and Project Manager for the People-to-People project, the dialogue aimed to promote peace and women’s empowerment among communities in Karene District. Ade-Williams underscored the importance of bringing together stakeholders with diverse perspectives, emphasizing the pivotal role of collaboration in understanding and addressing the challenges faced by residents.

Central to the dialogue was the establishment of structures to facilitate familiarity and enhance progress achieved during the initial phase. Ade-Williams highlighted the appointment of key players to serve as intermediaries between the community and CGG, emphasizing the importance of inclusive engagement and communication.

Youths, among the primary beneficiaries of the initiative, pledged to collaborate closely with CGG to ensure the realization of objectives pertaining to women’s empowerment, peace, and stability in the region.

Among the potential partners identified for the People-to-People Peacebuilding Project were SEND Sierra Leone, WOFHRAD, and the Association for the Wellbeing of Rural Community and Development (ABC-D), indicative of a collaborative approach towards sustainable development and peacebuilding.

Participants, including Issatu Zaniab, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to engage in the dialogue, acknowledging CGG’s role in creating a platform for interaction and exchange. Zaniab affirmed her commitment to supporting efforts aimed at promoting peace and women’s empowerment in the region.

Similarly, Mabinty Kamara conveyed appreciation to CGG and its partners for the training opportunities provided, underscoring the significance of capacity-building initiatives in advancing peace and development.

The People-to-People Peacebuilding Project stands as a beacon of hope, signaling a collective endeavor to cultivate peace, cooperation, and women’s empowerment within Sierra Leone’s Karene District, laying the groundwork for sustainable progress and social cohesion.
