Extra Mile Charity School, a beacon of free education and community care has recently celebrated its inaugural thanksgiving service, marking a milestone of academic excellence and unwavering support for underprivileged youth.
During the event held at the school’s Goderich Compound, Principal Wusu Kargbo proudly recounted the school’s record-breaking accomplishments. Among its shining achievements is the historic performance of the “Nine Legends”, the first batch of students to take the WASSCE in 2022. “These students shattered expectations, earning national recognition from the Ministry of Basic Education,” Kargbo declared. Notably, 90% of these trailblazers are now pursuing university studies both in Sierra Leone and abroad, with three of them returning as educators to inspire future generations.
Extra Mile Charity School stands out not only for its academic prowess but also for its holistic approach to education. As a state-sponsored institution, it offers free junior and senior secondary education, complete with nutritious breakfast, uniforms, textbooks, and notebooks, ensuring no child is hindered by a lack of basic necessities. Currently serving 185 students, the school is set to see 22 candidates sitting for the WASSCE and 25 for the BECE this year, further cementing its reputation as a centre for academic distinction.
Despite its impressive progress, the school continues to grapple with challenges such as teacher attrition and resource constraints. In light of these hurdles, Principal Kargbo made an impassioned plea for sustained donor sponsorship. “Every contribution is a lifeline, transforming the future of these deserving students,” he emphasised.
Dignitaries, including Mr. Samuel Garus, Madam Oluyemi C.J. Pratt, and former student Musa Alusine Kanu, echoed his call for ongoing support, urging individuals, organizations, and government entities to invest in the future of Sierra Leone’s children. As the community celebrates this momentous day, Extra Mile Charity School remains committed to its vision of providing quality education and holistic care, proving that with collective effort, every child can rise above their circumstances.
