From April 18 to 19, Chinese Ambassador to Sierra Leone, Wang Qing, attended the 119th anniversary celebration of Bo School as a distinguished guest. The event brought together high-level dignitaries including His Excellency President Julius Maada Bio, First Lady Fatima Bio, the Chief Justice, Chief Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Minister of Basic and Secondary Education, alumni, staff, students, and members of the public from various walks of life.
As a special guest speaker, Ambassador Wang Qing delivered a speech highlighting the historical development, achievements, and global significance of Chinese modernization. He noted that China is actively advancing the building of a strong nation and the great task of national rejuvenation through its modernization path.
Ambassador Wang expressed China’s willingness to deepen cooperation with Sierra Leone by implementing the Ten Major Partnership Initiatives proposed by Chinese President Xi Jinping, which are aimed at advancing modernization efforts between China and Africa. He reiterated China’s commitment to strengthening the longstanding friendship and collaboration between the two countries and working together to build a shared future for humanity.
A key highlight of the celebration was the official unveiling of the “Beijing Building”, a newly completed student dormitory at Bo School. Ambassador Wang Qing joined President Bio in cutting the ribbon to formally open the facility.
The “Beijing Building” is now the fifth student dormitory at Bo School and notably the only school building in Sierra Leone named after a Chinese city. Its completion represents a tangible symbol of the growing cultural and educational ties between China and Sierra Leone.
The event was a celebration of Bo School’s rich history and a testament to international cooperation in education and development.
