CASE -SL encourages School girls to make good use of mobile phones

The Director of Center for Advocacy and Sustainable Empowerment (CASE) Sierra Leone, Rassie Bah has encouraged the adolescent girls to make good use of the digital penetration in Sierra Leone to enhance their education. The occasion took place at CASE Sierra Leone office headquarters along the Bo Kenema Highway in Bo.

She made this statement on Saturday while observing the International Day of the Girl Child , which   according to her they are joining the world over to observed on Monday 11 October  on theme ‘ Digital Generation our Generation.’

She said ” the girls should make good use of their mobile phones which serves as a Library for education don’t misuse the smart phone.”

According to her, the theme of the international Day of the Girl Child is in place and if the school girls make use of the phone, it will be of huge help to them.

Parents and guidance should monitor their children to make good use of their phones. They are uniquely placed in to achieve quality education and enhance their existence in the society.

“CASE Sierra Leone has an adolescent girls’ panel that mentors the girls to ensure that their safe spaces are protected. The CASE Sierra Leone Girls’ Panel is also teaching the adolescent girls in the Shelmingo community in Bo to make good use of their phones,” she said.

Madam Bah called on politicians to deliver on their manifesto on child protection, education and provide healthy environment for the girl child.

She said that the observance of the day supports the mere opportunity for girls and increase the awareness of gender inequality and empowerment of women and girls.

The international day she said also increases the awareness around access to education, nutrition, legal rights, medical care, and protection from discrimination, violence against women and forced child marriage.

One of the members of CASE Sierra Leone Girls’ Panel, Massage Tucker said that the panel is a forum created the opportunity for them to learn and also teach others who are in the community that are not part of the panel.

‘Our rights and responsibilities are discussed during the girls’ panel. The international day of the girl child is also important for us the girls because the theme of this year resonates with our quest to achieve education.  We will make use of the digital penetration in Sierra Leone as we are now in the digital generation,” she said.

Mariatu Bergie from the Adami Project said she join CASE Sierra Leone to observed the day because they believe that girls are the future leaders of Sierra Leone and they should be taken care of to become leaders that can contribute to national development.
