A local NGO, Community Action For Sustainable Development (CASD) based in Bo is striving hard to complement government’s efforts especially in education.

Although their effort is also felt in agriculture but education is a key target for them. That is why they are targeting girls in primary and secondary schools.

So that they can ensure retention and high completion rate.

On Saturday, 17th September 2020 at the MJ Swaray hall in Bo adolescent, school – going girls from rural areas in Bo who are from poor backgrounds and vulnerable went through some mentorship training.

It was a bold step at educating girls about their sexual lives and knowing what to do so that they prevent teenage pregnancy. Nurse Millicent Lappia, a Community Health Officer cautioned the girls against “engaging in pre- marital sex”.

She entreated them to take their academic work “seriously”.

That involving in sex at a young age always had dangerous consequences and health complications.

And that if they took their education seriously, they stand to benefit a lot.

Another motivational speaker that day was a university student, Theresa Kebbie from Njala who told the girls that they can influence society positively.

That if “if other women of substance in our society have done then they too can do it”. She told them that they are not too young to influence society and encouraged them to be positive no matter what. In another development, the C.E.O. of the NGO, Richmond Kabba Brima show- cased a short play in which girls were advised to imbibe positive attitude which will enhance the development in their adulthood. The event was rounded up by a short lesson on how a business idea is conceived and developed.
