Caretaker in Court for Alleged Fraudulent Conversion

Ahmed Tarawalie, a 22-year-old caretaker, made another appearance before Magistrate Mary Julian Gbloh at Pademba Road Magistrate Court No. 5 in Freetown. He is standing trial on one count of fraudulent conversion, contrary to Section 20 (1)(iv)(a) of the Larceny Act of 1916.

According to the particulars of the offense, between 1st and 25th April 2025, at Leicester Peak Road in the Mountain Rural District, Western Area, Freetown, the accused allegedly fraudulently converted to his own use or benefit certain items entrusted to him by one Ahmed Kamara for safekeeping. The items include: One roll of outdoor SCART cables, four rolls of speaker and camera cables.

The total value of the property is estimated at Seven Thousand Eight Hundred Leones (Le 7,800).

When the charge was read and explained to the accused, no plea was taken.

Prosecutor Sergeant 5598 Santigie Koroma informed the court that he had led four prosecution witnesses, including a formal witness who tendered several exhibits. He then closed the prosecution’s case.

Magistrate Gbloh granted bail to the accused in the sum of Fifty Thousand Leones (Le 50,000), with two sureties in like sum. The sureties are required to produce valid identification showing their residential addresses in Freetown. Bail is to be approved by the Deputy Assistant Registrar.

The matter was adjourned to 11th July 2025 for further proceedings.
