Three individuals Abubakarr Turay, his wife Fatmata Bangura, and their daughter Kadiatu Turay are currently standing trial at the Pademba Road Magistrate Court No. 1 before Magistrate Mustapha Briama Jah, accused of stealing \$7,000 (Le170,100) from the residence of Sierra Leonean football star, Kai Kamara.
The trio, who were employed as caretakers at Kamara’s apartment on Fadika Drive, Hill Station, Freetown, face charges of conspiracy and larceny, in violation of the Larceny Act of 1916.
According to the charge sheet, the theft occurred on January 15, 2025. In court, Abubakarr Turay pleaded not guilty to the charges, while his wife and daughter admitted to the offence.
Detective Police Officer Andrew Nyakeh Amara, attached to the CID Headquarters in Freetown West, testified that he obtained voluntary caution statements from the accused between January 20 and February 2, 2025. These statements, recorded in both Krio and English, were signed by the accused with thumbprints and presented as evidence before the court.
During cross-examination by defense counsel M.Y. Conteh, Detective Amara confirmed that one of the accused denied stealing the \$7,000 but admitted to being a caretaker for the complainant, Kai Kamara.
The case, which started as a preliminary investigation under the Larceny Act, remains before the Pademba Road Magistrate Court. It has been adjourned to September 1, 2025, for further proceedings. Bail for the accused continues.
