The Technical Directorate of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), through WAFU Zone A, has organized a two-day capacity-building workshop on women’s football development for female clubs currently participating in the ongoing CAF Club Championship Qualifiers in Bo City, Southern Sierra Leone.
The seminar, held on August 6-7, aimed to empower women’s football administrators on various key topics, including club licensing registration and regulations, social media strategies, and marketing outreach.
The opening ceremony featured notable attendees such as Western African Football Union Zone A Executive Director Mapathé Gaye, CAF Club Licensing Expert Doreen Nabwire, UFOA-A Women Football Commission Chairperson Seyni Ndir Seck, and SLFA Director of Competition Sorie Ibrahim Sesay.
In his address on the state of women’s football development in Sierra Leone, Director of Competition Sorie Ibrahim Sesay highlighted the significant progress made by the Federation in promoting women’s football.
He noted that the rise of the country’s elite league has seen Mogbwemo Queens participate for the second time in the CAF Championship qualifiers. Remarkably, they are the first club in Sierra Leone to receive club license approval without any fines or suspensions from CAF. He expressed gratitude to CAF and WAFU Zone A for organizing this workshop to enhance the capacity of administrators in the region.
Representing CAF, Club Licensing Expert Doreen Nabwire from Kenya emphasized the seminar’s importance in promoting sustainable growth among female football clubs in the Zone. She reminded participants from Senegal, Mali, The Gambia, Liberia, and Sierra Leone of the crucial role administrators play in the women’s football ecosystem.
In his keynote address, WAFU Zone A Executive Director M. Mapathé Gaye praised the Technical Directorate of CAF for their relentless efforts in advancing women’s football in Africa. He added that WAFU Zone A has made significant strides in prioritizing women’s football development.
Mr. Gaye also thanked CAF for their technical and financial support in organizing the Women’s Championship tournament in Sierra Leone.
