Thirty-eight-year-old businessman Alex Dumbuya has made another appearance before Magistrate John Manso Fornah at Pademba Road Court No. 2 in Freetown. He is facing two charges: conspiracy to defraud, contrary to law, and obtaining money by false pretences, contrary to Section 32(1) of the Larceny Act of 1916.
According to the particulars of the offence, between April 1 and April 31, 2024, in Freetown, the accused allegedly conspired with unknown persons to defraud by obtaining money under false pretences.
The second count alleges that during the same period and at the same location, the accused fraudulently obtained the sum of 133,500 Leones from one Esther Finda Gbetuwah by falsely pretending he had a sport edition vehicle for sale, knowing the claim to be false.
When the charges were read and explained to the accused, no plea was taken.
Prosecutor Sergeant 8811 Florence M. Wilson requested a short adjournment, citing the absence of her witness.
Given the seriousness of the charges, Magistrate Fornah denied bail and ordered that the accused be remanded at the male correctional facility in Freetown. The matter was adjourned to June 20, 2025.
