Foday Sesay, a 25-year-old businessman, made his first appearance before Magistrate Augustine Brima Samura at the Pademba Road Court No. 8, facing two counts of larceny contrary to Section 2 of the Larceny Act of 1916.

According to the particulars of the offence, on Saturday, 26th April 2025, at Freetown Road, Lumley, in the Western Area of Freetown, the accused allegedly stole a total of $9,500 (equivalent to Le 233,700,000) belonging to Ibrahim Fofanah.

Count two alleges that on the same date and at the same location, Sesay also stole $7,000 (equivalent to Le 172,200,000) from another victim, Osman Bah.

When the charges were read and explained to him in court, the accused pleaded not guilty.

Defense counsel C.M.B. Amara applied for bail on behalf of the accused, arguing that Sesay is a Sierra Leonean resident within the jurisdiction, has credible sureties willing to go on recognizance for him, and would neither interfere with prosecution witnesses nor abscond. The bail application was made pursuant to Section 79(3) of the Criminal Procedure Act No. 32 of 1965.

Magistrate Samura granted bail in the sum of Le 500,000, with two sureties in like sum. The sureties must be ordinarily resident in the Western Area of Freetown and must present valid national identity cards showing their addresses. The bail is to be approved by the Deputy Assistant Registrar.

The matter was adjourned to 3rd July 2025.
