Following the death of the substantive Paramount Chief of Bumpeh Ngao Chiefdom in Bo District, J.T Kposowa, the government has appointed Mohamed Lamin Sannoh as the Regent Chief of the chiefdom until the people elect their paramount chief.
Speaking to A-Z Newspaper at Bunpeh Town shortly after the presentation of the Regent Chief, Mr. Sannoh said that he will work amicably with the people and the stakeholders in the Chiefdom until people vote in a candidate of their choice to be become the paramount chief of Bumpeh chiefdom.
‘I did not come to remove people from their positions in the chiefdom and I am not interested in becoming the paramount chief of the chiefdom. I am just a care taker sent by the government,’’ he said
Mr. Sannoh said that he has worked in Sorogbeima Chiefdom as a Regent Chief for ten years but the systems I put in place in Sorogbeima Chiefdom might be different than the one I am putting in place at Bumpeh chiefdom due to cultural variation.
He noted that “I am not going to be the only one to take care of the chiefdom as I have to do it in collaboration with the people and the stakeholders in the chiefdom. The ideas to be shared by the people are important as it will help me in the development of the chiefdom until they elect their chief.
According to Mr. Sannoh, as a regent chief, honesty and dedication to service is very key in taking care of the chiefdom and these are among the qualities he will display to make the people work with him for the betterment of the chiefdom.
“I am pleading with the people to work as a team for the development of the chiefdom,” the Bumpeh Regent Chief said.
Speaking to this medium, residents of Bumpeh Ngao Chiefdom thanked the government for appointing the care taker to man the affairs of the chiefdom until they elect their chiefdom.
They called on the regent chief to work with them and also accept the suggestions or recommendations they will be proffering for the development of the chiefdom.
Brima Marva called on the provincial administration to ensure that the election is conducted within a short period of time in order to have their paramount chief.
The Bumpeh Chiefdom Administrative Clerk, Frederick M. Brima said that the Local Government Act states that there should be care taker or regent chief for the period of one year before election is conducted.
He encouraged the people of Bumpeh to work with the care taker to provide the leadership until the substantive paramount chief is elected.
Mr. Brima said that when there was no Regent Chief the chiefdom committee meeting was not taking place. He expressed the hope that the committee will now be meeting to discuss the development of the chiefdom.
