The new Principal of the Bo Government Secondary School , Edward Kpakra, has disclosed that he is poised to raise the fallen standard of School by making class promotion to the next class very competitive.
Speaking to this medium in his Bo School office, Mr. Kpakra said that: “we are now seeing a down ward trend of the result for public examination, which is not quite impressive’’
According to him, Bo School has been competing with schools like Christ the King College but the situation is reversing. He promised that the performance of the pupils will improve in the coming years.
‘’ I want the Board, Old Boys and the parents to give me time to prepare those in the Senor School(SS2) and that is while the passing mark for internal examination in the school for promotion to the next class is 60%,’’ he said,
He however, pointed out that he is aware of the fact that the Ministry of Education has its own passing mark but expressed the hope that the ministry will allow the schools to have the autonomy to make decision on internal examination.
“I am sure that the school administration has the support of the Board and the old pupils to improve on the standard of the school by raising the bar high with the 60% or better for promotion to the next level,’’ Bo School principal said.
Mr. Kpakra is proposing that that “if a pupil gets between 45%-50% he will be asked to repeat and even when they have the passing mark but their conduct is not good, they will be asked out of the school.”
He sounded very tough on the issue saying: “there are other schools that the pupils can go and secure admission but I have to stand on what has been agreed on by the administration of the school.’’
Mr. Kpakra said that he has equipped staff to improve on the academic performance of the school and thinks that the way he is working with his teachers they are getting to the point where they will improve on the academic performance of the school.
“In fact I have appointed two teachers to monitor class attendance and learning. The Vice Principal and I move around to monitor what is happening in the classes and the functioning of the school generally.’’ Bo School Principal said.
He revealed that the pupils who were suspended have returned back to class having been cautioned for their action of leaving the school without the consent of the administration, adding that he is poised to install instill discipline into the pupils.
‘’ It will be important to note that 90% of the parents supported the action of the administration to suspend the pupils and that we have warned the pupils not to repeat their action,’’ Mr.Kpakra cautioned.
