In the early hours on 14th February, in Bo district Southern region, a distress call was made to the Bo Police West that one Mohammed Mathew Kamara ‘alias Mature’ a Second School (2) pupil of Christ the King College has committed suicide.
The 18 year old boy was an adopted son of the Paramount Chief Prince Lappia Boima of Kakua Chiefdom, who resides at Main New Gerehun road in the second city of Bo. The chief had adopted the boy at age three, when his wife brought him into their matrimonial home as a foster son.
We gathered that that the deceased is said to have allegedly stolen Four Million Leones, the equivalent of 400USD.
Sources say the family was investigating the matter when Mohamed Mathew Kamara committed suicide by hanging himself with noose tied to the roof of their family house.
According to Paramount Chief Boima, the boy started confessing at night by texting messages. He reportedly also wrote a letter before hanging himself asking for forgiveness.
The Chief said he had to report the matter to the Coroner attached to the Police who confirmed that the boy was dead by hanging.
It was the deceased foster brother, who discovered the source of the text messages.
The deceased foster mother Augusta Boima expressed her disappointment at his action, lamented that they wanted the best from the boy.
According to the Police Media officer Inspector Mohammed Bobson Senu said this is not the first case of suicide as they are also investigating an attempted suicide involving one George Koker in the same district.
The 32 year old George Koker attempted to committed suicide on the 22nd January 2021 but failed when people raised alarm and came to his rescue.
He has since been in a critical condition and was admitted at the Emergency Hospital in Freetown for medical treatment.
Whilst he is responding to treatment in the hospital he is still awaiting Police charge for an attempted suicide according to the Police Media Officer.
The Media Officer further revealed to A-Z Newspaper that they have dealing two other suicide cases about one Joseph Steven Koroma, Military Personnel attached to the Agricultural unit in Moyamba District. The said incident happened on the 29th July 2020. He was 40 years old. Another case involved one Abu Kamara, aged 30.
