The Bo Drivers Union convened on Friday, March 29, 2024, to address the pressing issue of drug abuse, particularly the use of Kush. Led by Chairman Mohamed Issa Barrie, the drivers pledged their full support to law enforcement efforts. They committed to collaborating with the Regional Police Commander South, Assistant Inspector General of Police Mr. Brima Kanneh, in proactive measures against substance abuse within the community.
During the meeting at the Regional Commander’s office, Chairman Barrie emphasized the drivers’ role in ensuring road safety and acknowledged the dangers of driving under the influence of drugs. He outlined strategies such as vigilance, reporting suspicious activities, and promoting sober driving practices to combat the menace.
Assistant Inspector General of Police Mr. Brima Kanneh expressed gratitude for the drivers’ solidarity and stressed the importance of community involvement in crime prevention. Chief Superintendent of Police Mr. Patrick Lahai Dumbuya echoed similar sentiments, emphasizing the necessity of sustained cooperation in combating crime.
Inspector Francess Blake from the Community Relations Department urged drivers to disassociate from Kush and prioritize their financial endeavors. She highlighted the destructive impact of drug abuse, particularly on Sierra Leone’s youth, reaffirming the Police’s commitment to addressing security concerns associated with substance abuse.
The meeting concluded with plans for further community engagements to enhance collaborative efforts in combating drug abuse. With both the Police and drivers unified in their resolve, concerted action is underway to create a safer and healthier environment for all residents of Bo City.
