The Civil Works Engineer of the Bo District Council, Mohamed M. Feika has disclosed that they have embarked on massive civil works in various sectors including roads, health, education and rural water in Bo District.
Ing. Feika told this medium that “for the feeder road works, they have handed over contracts to six contractors for construction of 50 culverts and for the rehabilitation and maintenance of thirty existing ones.
He added that a total of eighty culvets will be considered in six different chiefdoms including Bumpeh , Baoma , Bagbeh , Niawalenga and Salenga Chiefdoms.
He said that they are also doing another bridge work, which according to him, is at the verge of completion at Kendeyella in the district.
He also disclosed that they painting a school at Gbaa Village in the Niawalenga Chiefdom and a Peripheral Health Unit (PHU) at Golahun Jabati in Valunia Chiefdom.
“We have also done feeder road assessment with donor funding and apart from that there is a project funding from Ministry of Finance to do a massive construction of a community health center in Tikonko Chiefdom, of which the evaluation has been completed and the project will be handed over to the Ministry of Finance,’’ Ing. Feika said.
According to him, 96% of the feeder roads works they are doing, are funded from the Road Maintenance Fund Administration and that the Ahmadiyya Tikonko Bridge was funded from the revenue generated by the Bo District Council.
‘The Council does not cherry pick in terms of development in the district as we want to see tangible development in Bo district without discrimination in especially prioritizing areas where Non-Governmental Organizations cannot go with their projects ,’’In. Feika said.
He pointed out that since he took over office, they have covered nine chiefdoms and they have done assessment on other feeder roads in the other chiefdoms that they have not reached.
Ing. Feika said the Chairman and his councilors including the council staff are determined to bring more massive development in the Bo District, considering the development plan of the council.
Speaking to this medium in a telephone interview, some of the residents where the feeder road works is ongoing, expressed delight over the reconstruction and rehabilitation of the culverts and bridges that have been death traps.
According to Brima Bindi in Niawalenga Chiefdom, Bo district, the rehabilitation of the feeder roads in the chiefdom was part of the development plan of the council and that he is happy when the council is implementing what is factored into the development Plan of the council.
Augustine Koroma in Tikonko Chiefdom said that ‘’ it is our responsibility to pay out taxes to enable the council to embark on more developments in the district and encouraged the people to be committed to the payment of their taxes.
