The Local Government Ministry headed by Tamba Lamina has given waste collection trucks to councils across the country. And Bo City Council has adopted a robust waste collection drive to ensure a cleaner city that it is renowned for.
Speaking to this medium, Hinga Navo who is in charge of waste collection has revealed that there is a data base for all those who may wish for their waste to be collected from their doorsteps. He said interested people are registered at a minimum cost of Le 30,000 monthly which is paid directly to the Bo city council.
The recent trucks donated to the government are already making the difference as huge piles of rubbish have been collected from places that were eye sores in the city.
The other donated trucks were breaking down too fast and this was causing delays in clearing the garbage in the city. Upon receiving these new trucks, Bo city council had an annual financial set target and the trucks must be in good working condition.
Trucks in the past were not properly handled by the council and this caused them breaking down quickly and easily; hence leaving the city filthy. Bo almost lost its glory as the cleanest city in the country due to the constant breakdown of these dump trucks. It was also very expensive for council to go on hiring trucks from private vehicle owners. But Mr. Navo has assured that with the current system put in place Bo will surely regain its glory as the cleanest city in the country.
