Bo City Lorry Park Gets New Chairman

Mohamed Alpha Barrie emerged as the winner scoring over 70% of the votes cast during an election held on the 30th September at the attire base- New London business area and Lorry Park went into elections to get a new chairman. The election was observed by civil society groups, journalists and other stakeholders in the New London community (Bo district).

 Mr. Barrie is a business man who hails from Falaba in the northern province of Sierra Leone but has settled in Bo with his family for over ten years spanning.

Before vote casting the two contesting candidates, Mr. Sesay and Mr. Barrie were called upon to give a summary of their respective manifestos. Both of them promised good things for the youths.

After every registered member had cast his or her vote, counting was done in the full glare of observers and members. It is his second time of contesting the chairmanship election as he lost on his first attempt. He appeared very magnanimous in victory and promised “to work for every member.”

He doesn’t agree with the notion that attire base is for idlers. On his tenure he vows to make the attire base “purposeful and profitable.” According to the newly elected chairman, Barrie he has a lot in stock for the youths especially like bringing internet facility to the center so that it helps with their academia. His opponent conceded and celebrations ensue immediately after the announcement of the results.

The voting was restricted to only registered and paid- up members were allowed to vote. Voters described the election was conducted in a free, fair and credible manner.
