In a powerful demonstration of community pride and environmental stewardship, the Bo City Council, under the leadership of Mayor Kobba Musa, carried out a comprehensive cleaning exercise across the Bo Municipality on Saturday, December 14, 2024.
The initiative, which began in the early hours of a sunny Saturday morning, brought together an impressive coalition of stakeholders, including volunteers, media professionals, the Sierra Leone Police (SLP), council members, and various organizations. The collective effort transformed the municipality as participants swept streets, cleared drainages, picked up litter, and cleaned community dumping sites, reflecting a strong sense of unity and teamwork.
This cleaning exercise is part of the council’s ongoing commitment to fostering a clean and healthy environment for residents. It also aligns with broader sustainability goals, emphasizing the importance of community involvement in keeping Bo clean and green.
As the day unfolded, the Bo Municipality witnessed a remarkable transformation. Piles of garbage and debris were removed from streets, parks, and public spaces, leaving the city noticeably cleaner. The council’s waste management team played a crucial role in ensuring that all collected waste was disposed of responsibly, minimizing environmental impact.
Mayor Kobba Musa lauded the efforts of participants, emphasizing that the benefits of the exercise extend beyond cleanliness. “This initiative reminds us of the importance of proper waste disposal and instills a sense of pride in our city,” he stated.
The cleaning exercise was a vivid display of collaboration. Residents, young and old, worked side by side with council officials and volunteers, embodying the spirit of collective action. Among those who actively supported the initiative were traders, drivers, members of the Bike Riders Union (BRU), Njala University students, and civil society organizations.
Special acknowledgment was given to the Sierra Leone Police for their support, as well as to local businesses and media houses, including Bo’s radio stations, which helped amplify the initiative’s message.
A clean city is not just visually appealing it also enhances the quality of life for residents and boosts the local economy. Mayor Kobba Musa highlighted the economic advantages of maintaining a clean and welcoming environment, which attracts investors and visitors alike.
“This effort is not just about beautifying our city; it’s about creating a healthier, more prosperous Bo for everyone,” he said.
In his closing remarks, Mayor Kobba Musa extended heartfelt gratitude to all participants, noting that their dedication and selflessness were instrumental in the success of the exercise.
“To the SLP, traders, drivers, Njala University students, and the media, your contributions are deeply appreciated. Together, we are building a cleaner, greener, and more united Bo City,” the mayor remarked.
