In order to eradicate the novel coronavirus Diseases in the Country, the Bo District council in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Sanitation project( IHPAU), has on Tuesday the 15th March 2022, commenced a two-day community engagement on massive Covid-19 vaccination at the Bo District Council Hall, Falaba Section in Bo Town.
Expressing the significance of the two days session, the Development Planning officer for the Bo District Council, Efrida Bockarie, intimated that government and Partners has ensured that COVID-19 vaccines are in the country.
She added that the importance of the engagement is to expedite people to be vaccinated.
She informed that they invited the Paramount Chiefs, Counselors, Religious leaders, Youths, Mammy Queens etc within the Bo district to talk to their people to take the vaccination.
Efrida Bockarie said the vaccination is free and government and its partners will not be happy seeing people refusing to take the vaccination as next time the partners will not send such facilities to Sierra Leone because they’ll say that Sierra Leone did not use the vaccination.
Madam Bockarie appealed to the participants to take the message to their people.
In his contribution, the chairman for the Bo district council Mr. Joseph Muada Bindi disclosed that government was very proactive to set up structures to handle the Coronavirus. He added that many nations suffered from the pandemic than how it affected Sierra Leone.
Chairman Bindi encouraged the participants to get one on one discussion with one another about the vaccination and let them ignored fake news surrounding the coronavirus vaccination. Deputy Mayor for Bo City council Joseph Smart underscored the challenges faced by Sierra Leoneans during the outbreak of Coronavirus.
Hon. Eric Borbor Jumu, Head of Social Mobilization Bo DICOVERC explained the importance for taking Covid-19 vaccination. He noted that there are still coronavirus laws in Sierra Leone. He revealed that they have four (4) coronavirus vaccines which include: AstraZeneca, Sinopharm, Pfizer and Johnson & Johnson which are all available in Bo District and the entire country.
“My people tell me tell you this. Vaccination in Sierra Leone is compulsory as this is what government wants for its people. Government wants to save the lives of its citizens. Government does not want the sickness to spread”, Hon. Jumu noted.
Hon. Eric Borbor Jumu encouraged children from 12 years and above to take the vaccination. He added that in other countries, children below 12 years are vaccinated.
Abdulai Conteh from the DHMT/ Bo DICOVERC explained about the various vaccinations. He assured that the vaccines are of good quality adding that, they as medical officers have been educating the masses about the vaccination exercise.
