The just concluded one-month-long summer school known as the SLPP JMB Free Summer School has left ninety teachers with smiling faces in Bombali District.
All the teachers who took part in the maiden edition have received their stipends as promised. They collectively expressed their thanks and appreciation to the First Gentleman for such a laudable initiative. Speaking to this medium, the teachers also thanked the organizers especially the District Supervisor for his quick response and the manner he handled the entire programme. They said the stipends they received came at the right time at the start of the school year when they have to sew uniforms and buy school necessities for their children.
The District Supervisor, Abu Bakarr Saal commended the teachers for their studious work during the summer school holidays. He said these teachers have demonstrated that they mean well for the free quality education drive introduced by President Bio. He stressed that the summer school provided learners with more materials to pass their school exams. He said fifty-four teachers were initially selected but the number increased because of the expansion of the programme to two centres instead of one.
It could be recalled that over two thousand pupils gained access to the summer school although the programme was politicized initially. This medium interviewed parents in Bombali and Magburaka who expressed their satisfaction over the summer school as one that helped them so much during the previous holiday when children were expected to be passing around idly.
However, the massive turnout of pupils wanting to benefit from the President’s scheme made the organizers think twice and their response was to see to it that the facility was extended to Alhadi Islamic Secondary School instead of the Benevolent Islamic Secondary School.
