The Berny’s Hope Foundation held a one-day empowerment training for women and girls on Tuesday, 31 March 2026, focusing on leadership, media ethics, legal awareness, creativity, and personal development. The event took place at the Africell American Corner and brought together young women from diverse communities to enhance their personal and professional skills.
Speaking at the event, the Country Director of Berny’s Hope Foundation, Adel Dandas, said the initiative was part of the organization’s commemoration of International Women’s Day. Guided by the theme “Give to Gain,” the program emphasizes the importance of investing in girls to achieve long-term community development.
“This training reflects our commitment to empowering young girls. When they are equipped with knowledge, skills, and confidence, they become agents of positive change in their communities,” Mr. Dandas stated. He further highlighted that educating girls on leadership, media engagement, and creativity contributes not only to their personal growth but also to national development.
The training featured several expert facilitators. Aminata Iris Bangura led a session on media ethics and responsible communication, emphasizing the importance of using both traditional and digital media responsibly. “In today’s digital age, the media is a powerful tool. Young women must learn to use it responsibly to educate, inform, and advocate for positive change,” she advised.
Sarah Kamara Esq. conducted a session on the legal framework affecting women and children. She explained key legislation, including the Child Rights Act and the Sexual Offences Act, stressing the importance of understanding one’s rights and responsibilities. “Knowing your rights is the first step toward protecting yourself and others. Education and personal development are essential for building a successful future,” she added.
Additional sessions focused on leadership, creativity, and motivation, designed to inspire participants to become confident, innovative, and community-minded individuals. Representatives from the Healey International Foundation and Woman Tok delivered goodwill messages encouraging girls to seize opportunities for growth and empowerment.
Participants expressed appreciation for the program, describing it as impactful and transformative. The event concluded with the presentation of certificates, marking the successful completion of the training and reaffirming the foundation’s commitment to empowering women and girls throughout Sierra Leone.
