The accused, who was residing at Small Country at Mabureh, in Waterloo was a beggar and also a disable man, Abubakar Mansaray has appeared before Magistrate Sahr Kekura of Ross Road Court No.1 for allegedly assaulting his wife, Aminata Kamara, which led to her death.
He was arraigned before court for murder contrary to law.
It was alleged by the Inspector General of Police (IGP) that the accused, Abubakar Mansaray, on Saturday 21st December, 2022 at Small Country Mabureh, in Waterloo, on the outskirts of Freetown, murdered his wife, Aminata Kamara.
Led in evidence by Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Osman M. Bangura, prosecution witness (PW) 2, Detective Police Constable (DPC) 13862, Bernard Sankoh attached to the Scene of Crime Officer, (SOCO) at the Kissy Police Station, recognized the accused and could recall the day in question.
Sankoh said is charged with responsibly of visiting crime scenes and witnessed postmortem examinations.
He said he could recall March 21st 2023.
The witness said on the said date, he left the station for Connaught Hospital in Freetown, to witness postmortem examination on the deceased, Aminata Kamara.
He said at the said hospital, the government Pathologist Dr Siemon Owizz Koroma told him that he couldn’t perform postmortem examination on the corpse because it has decomposed.
The witness told the bench that he took photographs of the deceased, which were developed and printed into pictures.
The pictures were produced and tendered in evidence.
When magistrate Kekura asked the unrepresented accused to cross examine the witness, he, the accused started shedding tears in the dock.
Responding the accused, told the court that he had no questions for the witness.
Magistrate Kekura denied the accused bail and remanded at the Male Correctional Centre on Pademba Road in Freetown.
The matter was adjourned to 18th October, 2023 for further hearing.
