In complementing president Bio’s Human Capital Development through the Free Quality Education, Aid for Youths Development Organization (AYDO) has hired teachers who are currently conducting free summer school classes for pupils in different schools in the township of Kenema.
Explaining the overall objective for the conduct of the free summer school, the Chief Executive Officer of Aid for Youths Development Organization Moses Luseni Blake told A-Z Newspaper that the free summer school project is geared towards supporting and improving on Free quality education by complementing the effort of teachers in various schools and also augment the flagship programme of President Bio’s New Direction Government in actualizing the Human Capital Development.
Mr. Blake continued that the objectives of the ongoing summer school is to promote the free quality education in the country; enhance human capital development; complement the flagship programme of government; reduce the high rate of illiteracy in the district; promote girl child education; reduce high rate of failure in public examinations; engage the minds of pupils during holidays; and to help complete syllabuses in time that were not completed during normal school session.
He further disclosed that the summer school project will benefit pupils across the country more especially those residing in Kenema, the eastern part of the country. Mr. Blake added that the anticipated outcome for the summer school is to reduce high rate of failure in public examinations and that for the start of the summer school, they have targeted a total of one thousand pupils with possibility to increase the number as the summer school activity progresses.
Giving the background of their organization, Moses Blake further intimated that Aid for Youths Development Organization is an organization formed by university students cross Sierra Leone. He added that the organization started its operations since 2019, by organizing free summer schools, organizing inter schools debate and quiz competition and providing career mentorship for pupils in Sierra Leone and Kenema precisely. He therefore called for external support from government and development partners since most of their activities are funded from the meager lunch they save as students.
“The aim of this organization is to ensure that youths in Sierra Leone take the leading role in promoting activities that concern human empowerment and capacity building. We are just University students but have taken the lead to pay back to our respective communities. I want to call on government and other development partners to come to our aid in implementation our activities,” said Mr. Blake.
The Communications Director for Aid for Youths Development Organization Martin Sahr Kendor also informed that their organization is born out of the desire to give back to society.
He added that their area of intervention will be wide ranging but considering the fact they have only started running the organization, their operations will be limited within the purview of education at the moment.
He reiterated that their operation base for the moment will be in Kenema reason being that most of the originators of the organization are indigenes from Kenema.
He furthered that their major focus is to keep pupils in school in a full view of complementing the Free Quality Education so that the dream of the president for the country to achieve Human Capital Development is actualized through coordinating a summer school for pupils in Kenema.
Sahr Kendor concluded that they have a very good ambition in complementing the president’s vision towards the free quality education but however, noted that they are somehow constrained in terms of resource mobilization since they are University students. He therefore, called on the president and other key stakeholders and development partners to come onboard and support them in their service to humanity.
Mr. Junisa Mohammed Fallon is the principal for Ansarul Islamic Secondary schoon in Kenema, one of the schools where the summer school activities are being conducted. Mr. Fallon extended his profound thanks and appreciation to the executive of Aid for Youths Development Organization for their tremendous support in keeping school pupils busy during holiday periods. He called on stakeholders in kenema to replicate and support the laudable initiative of those young people by promoting education in that part of the country.
