Athletes have called on the Ministry of Sports (MOS) and the National Sports Authority (NSA) to make sure the country is represented in the upcoming Kaduna Games.
Speaking to this medium, President of the Sierra Leone Athlete Union, James Lemon aka (Kolo) said he is looking forward to both the National Sporting Authority and Ministry of Sport to do the needful for the athletes who have trained so hard to fly the Green, White and Blue in Nigeria
He emphasized that athletes have worked so hard to showcase their talent in this month’s Kaduna Games.
“They have been twice turned down by the Ministry of Sports so we don’t want the same to repeat again. We know football is the most popular sports in the country but Athletics have brought many medals home compared to what government has invested in football without any good result,” Lemon bluntly stated.
He added that the Abidjan and Nigeria disappointment is still fresh in the minds of athletes as they were at the airport to check in and they were later told that the trip has been cancelled, so we don’t want such to repeat and called on the authorities to do all they can in making this trip successful.
“Time is running out as the games will start over the weekend. I have trust in the Minister of Sport, Ibrahim Nyelenkeh and the Executive Director, Dr. Kenneth Brima because they have both been involved in sports and know what it means for the athletes, he concluded.
The Association has last month held a National Championship to enable them to selects the best athletes that will represent the Country in the Kaduna Games.
