At the launch of the Chinese Joint Job Fair and Corporate Image Exhibition at the Bintumani Hotel in Freetown, Sierra Leone, Speaker of Parliament, the Rtd. Hon. Segepoh Solomon Thomas, assured the Chinese that Parliament, as a legislative institution, would do all within its legal mandate to encourage and protect Chinese investment in Sierra Leone. This commitment aims to foster job creation opportunities for both Chinese nationals and Sierra Leonean citizens, ensuring a prosperous future for generations to come.
Speaker Segepoh Thomas continued that they had injected new energy into their diplomatic corporation between China. He stressed that Sierra Leone’s fifty-one (51) years of diplomatic relations with China, Sierra Leone had witnessed remarkable expansion of trade and economic corporation with many Chinese Funded Projects in Sierra Leone. He said the one-day Joint Job Fair and Corporate Image Exhibition would help improved the economic growth of youth across the country.
He reaffirmed that job creation is a key driver of economic growth and development. He said job creation also play a crucial role in reducing poverty and inequality. Speaker Thomas also edified that from the Macro-economic perspective, job creation is vital towards boosting productivity and creation of innovation. He assured the Chinese Counterpart that the Government of Sierra Leone would continue to support the Sierra Leone-China Bilateral Corporation through critical legislative actions.
“As a legislative institution, we will do all it takes by law, to encourage and protect Chinese Investment in Sierra Leone in a way that will inspire more jobs for our children and our citizens. I wish at this stage to register and also look forward to be part of targeted beneficiaries for upcoming Chinese Funded Projects,” said Speaker Thomas.
With increased of number of legislators, and with the ever-evolving demands for emerging legislators, Speaker Thomas said he would not shy away from confirming their dire need for infrastructural supports to address the situation of inadequate office spaces within the Parliament of Sierra Leone. Speaker Thomas concluded by expressing sincere thanks and appreciation to the organizers of the event, and looked forward to fruitful engagement and result targeted outcome.
