This morning, Vice President Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh represented President Julius Maada Bio at a solemn Remembrance Service held at the Cenotaph on George Street.
The event honored the sacrifices of war heroes, particularly those who served during World War II, and poignantly reminded Sierra Leone of its enduring legacy in global military service and peacekeeping efforts.
The ceremony, attended by military officials, veterans, and members of the public, featured a special tribute to Private Pessima Lamboi, a World War II veteran.
Vice President Jalloh expressed his admiration for Lamboi, stating, “He is a symbol of resilience and courage,” underscoring veterans’ vital role in the nation’s history.
The Remembrance Service, organized by the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF), aimed to honor those who fought for peace and foster a sense of national pride and unity.
The event included a wreath-laying ceremony, moments of silence, and speeches that reflected on the sacrifices made by service members throughout Sierra Leone’s history.
In his address, Jalloh emphasized the importance of remembering these heroes, saying, “We owe it to them to ensure their sacrifices are never forgotten.” He praised the RSLAF for their ongoing commitment to honoring and memorializing the contributions of war veterans.
This year’s remembrance was particularly significant as it aligns with broader efforts to acknowledge and preserve the history of Sierra Leone’s military contributions on the international stage. By commemorating these heroes, the government aims to inspire future generations to appreciate the values of duty, sacrifice, and patriotism.
Conclusively, the Remembrance Service concluded with a call to action for all citizens to honor the legacy of those who have served, reinforcing a collective commitment to peace and stability in Sierra Leone and beyond.
