The Human Rights Commission of Sierra Leone has through the Directorate of Business and Human Rights and Labour Relations continued it capacity buildiing training for staff of Koidu Limited in Koidu City, Kono District on business and human rights and conflict mitigation.

The training on Saturday 12th and Sunday 13th, March 2022 in the compay’s headquarters, brought together some staff from the middle level cadre.

The objectives of the training are to introduce the concept of business and human rights to Management and staff of the company, establish the link between compliance and successful business operations, establish the rights, duties and responsibilities of employer, employees and the host communities and strengthen the collaboration between the Company and the Commission.

The training will help every sector in the operational chain of the Company, thereby increasing productivity, good employee-employer relations, good community relations and a better business environment.

During the second session, which targeted the middle level cadre of the company, Vice Chairperon of the Commission, Victor Idrissa Lansana spoke about the esablishment of the Commission and its mandate and core functions. He urged the company to develop a policy that would help rasie awareness among staff members on sexual and gender based issues.

Presentations during the second session include; Women’s Rights and SGBV in Companies and Host Communities by the Vice Chairperson; Victor Idrissa Lansana, the Busines Case for Human Rights and the Human Rights Case for Business by Commisioner Dr. Gassan Abess, Highlights of Business and Human Rights Related Conflicts in Sierra Leone by Head of the Directorate; Abdulai Yollah Bangura and Conflict and Conflict Mitigation in Business Related Commuities by Moses Massaquoi. 

Certificates were handed over to staff who participated duirng the training.

Some of the staff who participated in the training welcomed the move by the company and HRCSL to have them trained on business and human rights and conflcit mitigation and assured of putting into practice what they have learnt.
