The Minister of Communication, Technology, and Innovation, Madam Salima Monorma Bah, outlined the government’s ambitious plans to transform Sierra Leone into a leading hub for startups and innovation on Tuesday, November 19th, 2024, at the launch of Global Entrepreneurship Week.

Speaking at the launch of Global Entrepreneurship Week, hosted by Innovation Sierra Leone, the Communication, Technology and Innovation Minister delivered the keynote address on the theme “The Intersection of Public Policy and Entrepreneurship,” highlighting groundbreaking initiatives to attract entrepreneurs and foster innovation.

Central to her message was the announcement of the forthcoming Digital Startup and Innovation Legislation, set to roll out in 2025. This landmark policy aims to provide targeted support for startups through incentives such as tax breaks, grants, and simplified business registration. Minister Bah also underscored the importance of infrastructure development, spotlighting Fɛlei TechCity, a state-of-the-art facility designed to offer co-working spaces and access to advanced technology.

Additionally, the Minister addressed the rapidly growing gig economy, unveiling plans for regulations that will empower Sierra Leonean gig workers to thrive in the global market. “Our vision is to create an environment where entrepreneurship and technology converge, driving economic growth and creating opportunities for all,” she stated.

Recognising the role of collaboration, Madam Bah commended Innovation Sierra Leone for organising the event, describing it as a critical platform for fostering partnerships and advancing the country’s entrepreneurial ecosystem. She called on stakeholders to embrace the government’s vision, emphasising that entrepreneurship is pivotal to Sierra Leone’s economic future.

Global Entrepreneurship Week brings together innovators, policymakers, and investors to exchange ideas and chart a course for inclusive growth. This year’s event reaffirmed Sierra Leone’s commitment to becoming a beacon of innovation in West Africa.
