Party agents of the ruling Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP) in Mapaki Chiefdom, Constituency 034 in Bombali District, Northern Sierra Leone, on Wednesday 31st, August, went through a training exercise to handle the registration process which is to commence over the weekend.

During the day, a training session was rolled out by the Chairman of the SLPP Northern Region Politicians who doubles as Chairman of the Fund Raising Committee, Sheikh Umar Kanu, the District Chaplain and the Chief Imam of the district.

In his opening remarks, Sheikh Umar Amin Kanu welcomed the participants for their continued support of the ruling SLPP. He called on them to apply what they have learnt in service to the party so that President Bio’s victory in the forthcoming election will be a sure thing.

He said they should be vigilant enough to prevent abnormalities in the electioneering process, noting that opposition politicians belonging to the All Peoples Congress (APC) may try to beat the system. He called on them to manage their data properly so it does not leak out to members of the main opposition party.

He said as members of the party they should exercise patience and avoid bad hearts, and assured them that the President will not forget them if they contribute to the success of the party. He narrated to them that his father who was a founding member of the APC party had embraced the President because of his stance on the development of the country at large.

In her presentation, the District Chaplain, Madam Marian K. Mattia explained that the victory of the party starts from the registration process right down to the casting of ballot papers. She emphasized that the agents should be watchdogs against the registration of underage, bribery, intimidation and so on.

The District Chief Immam, Alusine Kanu admonished them to stay focused and ensure that they represent the party well during the one-month-long voter’s registry process. He said food and transport allowances will be provided for the agents throughout the thirty days the registration is going to last.

The Chairlady for Mapaki Chiefdom, Sento S. Fornah informed this medium during an interview that the training was essential noting that the women are ready to go out in large numbers to register to vote for the ruling party. She commended President Bio for the steps he has taken towards providing electricity, toilet facility and pipe-borne water for the villagers in that remote part of the country.

The training of party agents was carried out across the country even in opposition strongholds.

It could be recalled that similar training was carried out in Binkolo the same day.
